Description
An active standoff system that can detect and classify surfaces that have been contaminated with chemical, biological and explosive materials from a safe distance is an important tool in counter terrorism and counter insurgence operations. It has be shown laser induce thermal emission (LITE) is capable of detect and identify common explosive materials and chemical warfare agent simulants with high specificity at a working distance of one meter and provide fast results. The proposed program will further improve the standoff distance to 30m and the efficacy/ruggedness of the instrument with improvements in components, design, and algorithm development.
