Description

This program proposes to develop a photonic integrated circuit with compressive sampling using excitable lasers and neural network process. Compressive sampling overcomes the limitation of traditional approach to analog-to-digital conversion, and provides 2 to 10 folds of energy reduction and has low latency. Using excitable laser is an innovative approach that is fundamental to provide the simple implementation of the compressive sampling processing with the necessary bandwidth and sampling precision performance. The team aims to first demonstrate the technical feasibility of using excitable lasers for compressive sampling, and then design a photonic integrated system architecture to handle a typical signal for wideband RF system.
