Description
Complete human anatomy avatars have a broad future role in advanced training environments, providing, for example, medically correct immersive experiences, performance-related physiological modeling studies, and in simulations for the purpose of designing protective armor. USARIEM have created individualized avatars as 3-D tetrahedral Finite Element (FE) meshes with full labeled anatomy, fitted to 3D body surface scans. However, the current avatars are static in the standing position and lack the capability to change posture. The overall goal of this project is thus to design, develop, and demonstrate computer software and data structures for adding articulated joints and natural motions to the USARIEM avatars and create a graphical user interface for repositioning, planning and activating avatar physical movement. Building on our existing technology and software on anthropometry and anatomical model generation and manipulation (AMGM), we will further develop a software suite that takes a set of human full anatomy FE models as input and repositions any selected body model in a medically realistic fashion.
