Description

Cornerstone Research Group, Inc. (CRG) is providing designers with an intuitive tool to generate non-intuitive optimal designs that improve performance by decreasing weight, increasing range and kinetic reach, and achieving higher precision for current and next-generation weapon systems. In Phase I, CRG developed a topology optimization architecture that included the use of commercial finite element software to optimize lattice structure geometries. Feasibility of this architecture was demonstrated through the design, fabrication, and experimental testing of an additively manufactured part. Further maturation of the design tool in Phase II will indicate readiness for operational use for the design and fabrication of missile structures using additive manufacturing processes.
