Description

Concepts to Systems, Inc. (C2Si), cooperating with Professor Sundaresan of Ohio State University (OSU), proposes the development of an innovative self-healing and self-routing wiring system for use in aircraft internal wiring system. C2Si innovation is in use of polymer composite with the conductive core made from a mixture of elastomer/ionomer matrix and conductive self-aligning nanoparticle additives. The wire architecture is placement of healing/rerouting layer between center conductor and outer insulator and protection polymer sheath with minimal modification of manufacturing process and possibility of reducing wire weight. C2Si team will perform Multiphysics modeling and design in Phase I. The preliminary design experimentation and reliability testing will be performed. C2Si team will demonstrate proposed design and produce testing results at proof-of- concept level. The proposed self-rerouting and curative interconnect technology (SERCUIT) is based on the prior research and development experience of C2Si PI and OSU PI who have worked together before on self-healing technologies for wire insulation. Successful completion of Phase I work will result in establishing feasibility of the proposed SERCUIT concepts and down selection of the technology meeting topic criteria.
