Description

Commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) electrical equipment is much less expensive than equipment specifically designed for military use, and provides faster integration of advanced capabilities. Since COTS equipment is typically single-phase, it is distributed between the three power lines to balance the current loading. However, it can be difficult to dynamically balance the currents to the 3% required by MIL-STD-1399/300B, since this depends on the current draws of the individual pieces of equipment at different times.<br>A Power Unbalance Corrector (PUC) can compensate for these dynamic changes, and balance the currents between each phase. One way to design the PUC would be to take in the full power, balanced between the three phases, and deliver it to match each of the phase loads. This PUC would operate at 200 A per line, and would be large, expensive, and inefficient.<br>Instead, there is a better approach. Diversified Technologies, Inc. (DTI) proposes an innovative approach to develop a PUC that will be a fraction of the size, cost, and weight of such a system.
