Description
The Navys Common Control System (CCS) plan for managing multiple Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) and manned aircraft requires mechanisms to focus the operators attention as quickly as possible to changes in the environment that will affect mission success. The planned evolution of the CCS to fully autonomous operation further requires that these changes and their effects on the mission be identified automatically. This requires not just improved user interfaces and situational awareness tools, but intelligent systems that can process large amounts of mission data, estimate mission risk, and re-task vehicles to achieve mission success. In the current CCS effort of reduced manning, significant risk arises when mission operator attention is not focused (or not focused in a timely manner) on emergent, Mission Threatening Anomalies (MTAs) that threatendirectly or indirectlythe UAS and/or its mission.DREAM CAPER will provide automation that can (a) detect the MTA and cue mission operator attention to its presence; (b) provide a probabilistic assessment of the severity of the MTA and its impact(s) on mission success; and (c) propose one or more plan changes for immediate implementation, that mitigate the threat to UAS mission success posed by the MTA.
