Description

The objective of this project is to develop a concrete 3D printing virtual simulator within the Modeling and Analysis for the Response of Structures (MARS) software. MARS is a multipurpose software featuring multiphysics and multiscale algorithms. MARS includes the Lattice Discrete Particle Model (LDPM) for the simulation of concrete under dynamic, quasi-static, and long term loading conditions. This project will enable organizations to tailor 3-D printing designs to account for local situations and requirements and address vulnerability and design issues of 3-D printed concrete structures under extreme loading conditions including: • Blast loads on reinforced concrete buildings, • Missile/aircraft impacts on buildings, • Fragment impacts on armoring concrete panels. This project is directly applicable to the current efforts at the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) for expeditionary structures and at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for extraterrestrial construction.
