Description
The U.S. Army seeks to support Mission Commander (MC) situational awareness (SA) and decision-making by developing 3D presentation software, fusing full-motion video (FMV) and related metadata into a unified, high-utility, display. Our Phase I combined information from multiple sensors to generate a single three-dimensional (i.e., 3D) visual representation of the battlefield using innovative probabilistic registration and 3D geometry building techniques. Our solution addressed the stated processing performance objectives, strived to wholly satisfy US Army expectations comprehensively, and is now well positioned for success within the Army, broader DOD, and commercial industry. The Phase I pointed out some specific areas of research and development that should be considered for future efforts, and those form the basis for the proposed Phase II work as:1. Improvements to the base 3D modeling;2. Improved georegistration;3. Real-time optimization of the 3D modeling environment;4. Improved change detection and tracking;5. Automatic data model reduction for archival and exploitation;6. User interface development.
