Description
With the increasing complexity of RF apertures and signature requirements on modern air platforms, in-field verification is a critical need for the US Armed Forces. In particular, the unique operating environment of Navy ships increases the need, technical difficulty, and logistical hurdles of performing such verifications at sea. IERUS Technologies proposes to develop a unique, reconfigurable RF probe system for handheld and robotically controlled use. The probe shall be capable of measuring defects in both LO treatments and RF apertures and overall vehicle RCS, supporting inspections at both Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels with the same unit. The proposed system is both affordable and supports quick measurements with 3D imaging capability to remove clutter such as landing gear or other below-deck obstructions via post-processing. Whether handheld or robotically manipulated, the proposed sensor provides a simple and dynamic measurement capability, virtually eliminating the need for dedicated diagnostic facilities. IERUS will provide the Navy a unique shipboard measurement capability with straightforward extension to off-ship diagnostics as well.
