Description

ABSTRACT: The result of this project will be integration of an advanced high-fidelity hydrocode into the MS Windows-based DoDEndgame Framework infrastructure through use of a flexible, open-source application integration infrastructure developed and supported by Illinois Rocstar. To perform the work, Illinois Rocstar will develop an extension to the MEVA application that allows for general couping to high-fidelity modeling tools through Endgame Framework. In the future, this capability can readily be extended to include other modeling tools currently in use by DoD designers and OEM engineers and can be used to provide multiphysics coupling among these tools. This capability will enable the generation of complex, software-specific input data, and will structure software output data in formats that are intuitive to the weapons planner. This development will minimize the need for expert-level user knowledge to generate results with these high-performance modeling tools. The multiphysics integration infrastructure used to integrate the EPIC hydrocode into Endgame Framework will require minimal, if any modification to the EPIC code, and will provide capabilities for future enhancements to the system. The infrastructure is cross-platform (Linux and Windows) and supports parallel codes on cluster computers for capability expansion when needed.; BENEFIT: The direct benefit from the project will be increased simulation abilities within the DoD suite of simulation tools for use in performing weapons simulations. These improved capabilities will allow for improved performance information to be developed, which ultimately results in improved lethality and perrformance for the warfighter.In terms of Commercial application, Illinois Rocstar uses and supports the open-source Rocstar Simulation Suite (rocstar.org). We are currently in the process of developing "Rocstar Multiphysics" from this already-multiphysics-based code, with a goal of a wide variety of pluggable open and closed-source physics module. Any application that is connected to our multiphysics integration toolkit will ultimately be available within Rocstar Multiphysics, producing a broader application base for the tool, and a wider potential clientele. In addition, from a commercial standpoint, we anticipate, given a successful integration of EPIC into Endgame Framework, we will be able to produce revenue from further government support work, adding further capabilities, and supporting the integration framework for others to add capabilities to Endgame Framework as well.
