Description
Warfighters operating in teams often face environments characterized by time pressure, rapidly unfolding events, high information processing demand and severe consequences of error. Managing an efficient work environment and minimizing errors due to the wear and tear, termed as the Allostatic Load, experienced by individuals under these highly stressful conditions necessitate identification of individual behavioral, cognitive, and social responses as well as continuous assessment of team level performance and resilience. Individuals, however, are hesitant to request or offer assistance in a team. Average social sensitivity (defining how team members can understand perception of other members based on their verbal and nonverbal cues) is shown to be a good indicator for outperforming teams. Thus, understanding the impact of not only Allostatic Load at the individual level but also Collective Allostatic Load (CAL) at the team level is a critical need. IAI will address these challenges with the development and testing of the Collective Allostatic Load Measures (CALM) system that collects, aggregates and analyzes sensor data through its multimodal sensor platform that continuously collects physiological, speech, human activity, social interaction, and proximity/location data and extracts their features.
