Description

Intrusion detection and warning remains a high importance topic to OSD, Navy and Marine Corps. The Phase I and Phase II work focused on the operational concept of long-term unattended security for containers, cargo, and other assets. Under this program, IAI built a security-sensing system called Cognitive Ultra-low Power Sensor System (CUPSS). CUPSS had a wide variety of sensing modalities, including radio and vision-based sensors, seismic and acoustic sensors suitable for advanced laboratory and supervised field-testing. The RF sensing modality of CUPSS is called ARGUS. To meet the requirements of the Navy SSP, the ARGUS system needs to be improved further. The objective of the effort described in this proposal is to characterize, evaluate, and improve the performance of the ARGUS system when deployed within or near to a PIDAS fence line. This system also needs to be field-ready and proven to meet SSP operational requirements. The S&T goal of this effort is to optimize ARGUS for low crawler detection and to reduce the numbers of false and nuisance alarms. In this regard, we will investigate: higher transmit power, polarization diversity, sensor height, overlapping detection zones, and enhanced detection algorithms.
