Description

The Department of Defenseisconcerned about adverseeffects ofcircadian rhythm misalignment on sleep hygiene and well-being ofservice members and veterans who suffer from symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Intelligent Automation, Inc., University of Central Florida RESTORES center and Raytheon IDS, proposeto develop PTSD SleepAid, an end-to-end sleep treatment system that monitors and regulatescircadian rhythm, and engages patients in mind and body trainingto overcomesleep barriers (traditional as well as PSTD-specific). This workleverages theIAI’s technology to monitor and regulatecircadian rhythm in general populations and complements it with PTSDspecificsensor modalities (Heart ratevariability and Galvanicskin response), user interfaces (based on userengagement and gamification) and a health provider web portal to address sleep hygiene problems in patients with PTSD. In addition to thelight treatment recommendations, PTSD SleepAid will use Sleep-Wake and Activity (SWA) and StressLevel Classification (SLC)models to providemind-body trainingtechniques. Integrated use ofsensor technologies, recommendations for physical and mindfulnessexercises, and goal-oriented,game-based interventions will help patients adhereto thetreatments. Under this program a web portal will be developed that allows health providers to monitor and interact with patients.
