Description

Navy Food Service Management (FSM) systems have enabled 21-day cycle menu planning, receipt control, and inventory management in an efficient and streamlined process. Integral to the FSMs menu development with highly acceptable menu items, is the data collected from a Food Preparation Worksheet, NAVSUP Form 1090, which includes an Armed Force Recipe Services (AFRS) index card for each menu item of the meals. The use of 1090 is, however, a manual and hard copy documentation process that reduces work performance and productivity because of the time required for manual paperwork. This in turn reduces the level and quality of training that can be provided to the CS. CSSUP is a user-centered design-driven mobile application that runs on a ruggedized 12 touch screen device. It is connected to the FSM system to help the CS to prepare food as per menu and recipe, log data and take notes similar to the 1090 form, and learn the food preparation process from step-by-step interactive training aids. CSSUP will encourage a collaborative environment for individual CSs in tracking and learning processes to improve meal acceptability, enabling the team to deliver effective and efficient food preparation services by improving menu acceptability and reducing wastage.
