Description

DLA Disposition Services is responsible for the disposal of excess DOD personal property, foreign excess personal property, scrap, hazardous waste, and property requiring demilitarization. DLA Disposition Services also offers reutilization and public sales to military, federal, state and local agencies, non-profit agencies, and US taxpayers through a marketplace. In the current process, the user disposing of items often does not provide a sufficient description of the items and the burden of cataloguing items falls on DLA personnel. Without proper description and visual depictions of the disposed items, the entire disposal process from turn-in to reutilization becomes highly inefficient. The proposed innovative D2R cross-platform, secure mobile app will improve the property documentation process (for disposing customers and DLA personnel) by providing the ability to take photos of property, annotate photos, dictate descriptions, and scan important codes, numbers, or documents. D2R will leverage voice-to-text, barcode scanning, and optical character recognition to provide these important functions. D2R will also be integrated with DLAs Automated Information System to auto-populate fields in the Electronic Turn-in Document to enrich and improve the quality of product descriptions, thus increasing the efficiency of search by consumers wishing to locate and reutilize DOD property.
