Description
The United States Navy (and Armed forces in general) currently uses radios such as AN/PRC-150 and AN/PRC-117G to provide beyond line of sight (BLOS) communications capabilities to the ships and other vehicles. These radios use high frequency communications and satellite communications to provide beyond line of sight communications. These essential links supplement line of sight communication radios and provide low data rate links. With increasing need for situational awareness and reconnaissance, high data rate communications are essential (e.g., high-def and low-def imagery and video link between unmanned surface vehicles (and remote multi-mission vehicles) and littoral combat ships to support mine-countermeasure operations).
