Description

Jordan Energy Alternative’s Mobilized Solar Array is a solar and battery solution that offsets power demands on-base while the vehicle is not deployed and provides immediate solar charging solution with battery power storage for the forward deployed Air Force's electric vehicle fleet. Col. Kevin Nalette of the Air Force Sustainment Center has expressed a need to increase the use of mobile renewable energy on base and situationally in the field for a future military electric vehicle fleet. To accomplish this, we will trailerize our mobile solar array system and study the feasibility of applying a battery storage solution so users will be able to offset the power demands on base while the system is at rest and quickly transport to locations where power can be immediately charge deployed electric vehicles.  Our commercial solution Mobilized Solar Array provides quick and easy solar power wherever a user needs it. Our solar panels folding array, are highly mobile, and do not require a complicated installation.  Principal Investigator Jason Jordan has developed, tested, and deployed mechanical and electrical solutions to improve many household systems including dryers and HVAC, and has experience designing automation techniques and developing small, functional networks. Our university partner, Megan Ellis (Ohio Wesleyan University) is an executive director with the business experience to bring large scale projects to life.  We have launched the pilot stage of a commercialized version of Mobilized Solar Array, without battery capability, and early interest has been promising.  Mobilized Solar Array is the culmination of our effort to give everyone access to solar energy. One unit plugged directly into a standard 110 volt outlet provides 800 watts of continuous power.  Our system is mobile, easy to transport and adjust. When users move across town, they simply pack up their solar array and take it with them. This key feature allows us to transport silent, reliable solar energy from a military installation to the site of disaster response, no installation required, while providing immediate charging power for forward positioned EVs. The panels themselves are rugged. They operate in warm and cold conditions and can sustain winds up to 35 mph. Our system automatically matches the frequency of the local grid without the need for converters. It stacks to meet power demands and folds for ease of transport. This feature will allow military customers to generate power on base while the system is in ‘storage,’ and bring the system to the point of need in the case of a disrupted power situation or EV charging needs.  There has never been a solar power and storage solution as versatile and mobile as JEA’s Mobilized Solar Array.
