Description

This SBIR proposes the development of algorithms, methods and devices used to adjudicate small-arms force-on-force training, with emphasis on proper marksmanship and the appropriate use of cover and concealment. We envision a solution with two components: a tiny camera unit for attitude and heading attached to the weapon rail or below the barrel, and a radio/computer that houses all other electronics. Phase II research will explore the preferred location for these two components, as well as the optimal placement and packaging of the electronics. No bulky vests or harnesses, no heavy halos, increased accuracy and capabilities, with significantly reduced weight.<br>The design baseline leverages the Tactical Engagement Simulation System (TESS), which has been in use with the US Army since 1998. TESS is a radio-based, collective, combined-arms weapons training system for aviation platforms, ground vehicles, and dismounted infantry, utilizing MILES Lasers and geometric pairing solutions. TESS employs high-rate data transmissions and can track multiple data aspects from each instrumented player to include position/location, heading, attitude, sight orientation, weapon events, etc.
