Description
Historically, steel cartridge case manufacturing installations have been designed to optimize high volume production of one or two components which allowed for relatively low cost production. Dramatically reduced requirements and current defense budgets discourage this manufacturing model. Currently these facilities do not have the flexibility to increase / decrease production economically. By combining critical manufacturing systems that utilize cross functional new and existing technologies with flexible specialized salt bath heat treating we will validate a process / procedure that produces a steel cartridge case that is capable of meeting the extremely precise metallurgical and performance characteristics. This manufacturing system will be designed to be capable of expanding as procurement conditions require while offering the flexibility of minimal production as needed.
