Description

LaunchPoint Technologies proposes to use their electric propulsion and control systems expertise in order to design, analyze and produce a lightweight electric self-start system for the T56 engine that will enable remote area operation of the E2D aircraft. This innovative self-start system will consist of a high specific power electric motor, a highly efficient motor controller, battery management system, Lithium Ion battery pack, and the necessary safety and mechanical apparatus to integrate the system into the aircraft. LaunchPoint will leverage its expertise in motor and motor controller design/analysis, electromagnetics analysis, thermal-fluid analysis and structural/dynamic analysis to design a system that will be less than the desired 200 lbs while maintaining performance, safety and high reliability. In the Phase I, the subsystem details will be developed and integrated into a system design that can meet all requirements. This will include designs for all subsystems and vehicle interfaces. In Phase II a prototype of the T56 self start system will be fabricated and tested at LaunchPoints Goleta, CA facility.
