Description
Lynntech proposes to use state of the art off-the-shelf electric coolers to provide temperature control within the Portable Cooled Biomedical Storage (PCBS) device. To decrease procurement time of the production model, a standard military medical supply case will be used to house the PCBS components. These electric coolers have a long history of being successfully used with spacecraft for lightweight energy-efficient temperature control that works in any orientation. In addition, the use of advanced insulation materials, including Lynntechs aerogel insulation material, will be investigated during a feasibility study. Standard military batteries will be used to provide backup power during storage and transport. A continuous recording of temperature within the PCBS two drawers will be maintained via a secondary battery. The PCBS will be one person portable and will alert personnel with an audible alarm if temperatures are not being maintained. Lynntech is a boutique manufacturer and has the facilities to produce limited numbers of PCBS machines during Phase II. The PCBS will make the transport and storage of blood and pharmaceuticals a faster and less work-intensive process by sending temperature data to nearby computers used by transport personnel instead of requiring manual checks.
