Description
There is a critical need in the DLA subsistence supply chain for an efficient and compact device to purify and heat water for the warfighter. The current solution is time consuming, severely limits soldier mobility and stealth by producing a thermal/visual signature, and requires carrying a Class 3 Item (the fuel). Mainstreams Heating Hydrating COmbat Ration (HHYCOR) device provides a reliable and cost efficient solution for the DLA subsistence supply chain to increase the mobility and lighten the load of the warfighter. The HHYCOR product improves the subsistence supply chain by providing the warfighter with hot beverages and ration components that can be heated while on the moveMainstreams HHYCOR device is flameless (no visual signature), self-contained and single-use (no metal cup or clean up), and safe (no Class 3 items). In addition, the HHYCOR device is lightweight (weighing only a few ounces), rugged (uses only flexible materials), and low-cost (incremental unit production cost estimated to be less than $1).Mainstreams objectives for Phase I are to further develop the design of the HHYCOR device, optimize the design for high-volume production, perform a manufacturing demonstration, and verify performance of completed devices.
