Description

Field Sanitation Centers (FSCs), a critical element of Army mobile kitchens provide a method to wash, rinse, and sanitize kitchen wares in order to conduct field feeding operations. Their primary function is to clean cookware and dishes used during preparation of meals throughout the day. The current pack-off volume of the FSC-2 (the legacy FSC system which began deployment in 2006) is excessive and requires a separate vehicle for transportation. There is a critical need for a Compact Sanitation Center (CSC) that can fit within a 25 W x 28 L x 42 H volume while providing the same functionality and increased efficiency compared to the legacy system. Mainstream proposes a Mobile and Efficient Sanitation System (MESS) as a modular three sink compact sanitation center (CSC) that integrates an automated temperature control system (TCS) capable of providing the Army with an energy-efficient and mobile solution for forward operating bases. The unit is easily packaged within a 25 W x 28 L x 42 H volume, capable of maintaining sink water temperatures of 110, 120, and 171 F with a 60,000 BTU/hr burner firing rate, and has an estimated large scale production cost of less than $9000 per unit.
