Description

Reducing water consumption and greywater disposal has huge benefits in terms of safety and cost savings. However, in order to maximize the amount of water that is recycled at an Army base, an intelligent water monitoring system is needed to ensure that water from various sources on the base is processed appropriately. Mainstream Engineering proposes to develop a chemometric model to fully describe and characterize water prior to recycling or disposal. This technology relies upon statistical methods that relate data to properties of interest. In Phase I, Mainstream will optimize the chemometric model for a variety of waste water sources including laundry, kitchen, shower and latrine. In Phase II, Mainstream will fabricate and test the monitoring system. This will ultimately result in a prototype delivered to the Army for testing within a relevant operational environment (TRL 6).
