Description

The objective of the proposed effort is to improve the realibility, robustness and performance of a low parasitic solid waste preprocessor.Currently, solid waste management in the combat theatre is a major logistical burden which impacts mission effectiveness.Additionally, fuel logistics is critical for success mission operations. The US Army's BWEC system can solve this issue by processing the contingency base camp waste into electricity and heat.Currently, the BWEC system's Solid Waste Preprocess (SWP) is not reliable, robust and does not meet performance requirements when processing high food content waste or when dealing with large waste composition variations.MSW Power proposes to address these issues during this effort which includes improved pellet quality, development of a homogenization process, reliable conveyance methods and improved drying operations. The results of this effort could be coupled with the US Army's BWEC system for improved performance and meet the Force Provider CPD Document requirements for full waste to Energy operations.
