Description
ABSTRACT: NP Photonics proposes to develop a high repetition rate, high average power USPL source by taking advantage of our laser technologies based on highly doped glasses. This USPL source has the advantages of high power scalability, compactness, and high reliability. In this Phase I program, we will investigate the feasibility and study the risk to develop a power scalable USPL using our highly doped glass laser technologies. A USPL source capable of producing ultrashort pulses with tens of mJ energy at a repetition rate of 10 kHz will be developed and characterized in Phase II.; BENEFIT: Ultrashort pulsed laser sources have found a variety of applications in spectroscopy, medical treatment, material processing, highly nonlinear processing in atoms and molecules, high harmonic generation, attosecond pulse generation, laser filamentation in the atmosphere, remote sensing of chemical or biological materials, and laser approaches for particle acceleration. This program will rekindle the interest of using glass materials for high repetition rate USPL development with innovation platforms.
