Description

New systems, such as Mode 5 Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), require qualification testing prior to deployment. In the case of Radio Frequency (RF) systems, staging a test event that creates a representative RF environment can be expensive and logistically complex. However, the technical challenges in creating a realistically simulated real-world RF environment stresses both the electronic processing of applicable signals as well as the RF hardware needed to properly transition between the electronic processors and the RF systems under test. To address the desire of the Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) to increase the number of radiators in a Mode 5 IFF combined live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) simulation, NuWaves and partner ViaSat endeavor to advance the hardware and software technologies conceptualized in Advanced RF environment simulator for mOde 5 and IdenTification friend or foe (ADROIT) Phase I. This effort will include generating an efficient and linear power amplifier, refining other RF hardware, as well as update/improve software, culminating in a prototype deliverable that can be integrated into the Army’s Joint Scalable Tactical Emulated Network (JSTEN) framework.
