Description

OEwaves offers to advance the state of 1550 nm laser technology, and design and develop an LMA that will support current Lightweight Wide Aperture Array (LWWAA) operation while lowering the modules cost. We propose to use self-injection locking of a 1550 nm (C-band) semiconductor laser chip heterogeneously integrated with a high quality factor (Q) whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonator to improve the spectral properties of the laser and generate narrow linewidth light at telecom wavelengths, in a chip scale form factor. Additionally, this approach will result in a reduced cost packaged device. WGM resonators are useful for laser stabilization since they provide very high-Q and high finesse along with very small size and high immunity to environmental and field perturbations, such as temperature, vibration and acceleration. The solution proposed by OEwaves is to extend the design of our existing commercial laser architecture to produce a ruggedized laser package with lower RIN and higher power output.
