Description

Orbital Research Inc. (Cleveland, OH) will develop a Multisensing Target Discriminator (MTD) for integration with existing and future shoulder launched munitions, with the initial target being 83mm platforms. The Orbital Team, including Nammo Talley (Mesa AZ), will leverage their expertise in shock hardened electronics and analog sensor conditioning and amplification. Having Nammo Talley on the team with their position as the integrator of the relevant target platforms will enable solutions to be designed in a focused fashion, specifically as to what can be fielded fastest. Key to Orbitals approach is to focus on starting to discriminate the target before impact, in order to allocate more time for a more comprehensive decision tree for discrimination. The MTD is a ruggedized sensor module that can be integrated into the nose of the 83mm round that will provide this discriminatory information to the fuze in order to best inform a multi-mode warhead. It contains three main sensor components that enable the Multisensing Target Discriminator to perform its analysis rapidly and with better results than a single sensor can. Test capabilities on-site at Orbital Research will ensure rapid and low cost experimentation to validate design concepts, including Orbitals 100,000 g Shock table.
