Description

ABSTRACT: We approach this research with the concept that Open Architecture concepts with shared heterogeneous processing pools running on COTS processing cards will enable reduced SWaP for Air Force ISR platforms and improved modularity in system configuration between multiple platforms. This creates new opportunities for algorithms that have mutual benefits such as cross-cuing for faster SAL area coverage, and improved image formation by leveraging improved knowledge of error sources.In Phase I the PI2 team will:1: Develop requirements for a modular, scalable, open architecture, and COTS pooled-processor for common high resolution imaging with a variety of sensing apertures (e.g., EO/IR/SAR/SAL)2: Identify opportunities for synergistic multi-mode image processing on a common processor, to include system-level error mitigation, image focus and noise reduction, target acquisition, tracking, and fused image formation.3: Quantify the expected performance metrics for the combined imaging system through analysis and simulation, as well as metrics for Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) reduction.; BENEFIT: At the end of Phase I, the PI2 team will have analyzed the opportunities for synergy and improved processing for RF and Optical (e.g., EO/IR/SAR/SAL) high resolution image processing, and developed the requirements and a concept for a modular, scalable, open architecture, and COTS pooled-processor to host that processing. Analysis, modeling, and simulated results will quantify expected performance.We will clearly explain our plan for Phase II demonstrations, in the context of risks and expected rewards.
