Description

This proposal is for continued development of the Visualization Interface for Sensor Team Aggregation (VISTA). VISTA provides an interactive 3D visualization framework that can perform data fusion of live streaming video from multiple UAV sensors, using terrain data and ISR data from existing repositories to construct a visual scene of an area. VISTA brings together significant prior work in the domains of UAS sensor management, image processing and computer vision to provide this novel capability for use in tactical environments. In Phase I we successfully demonstrated a VISTA proof-of-concept prototype that used simulated UAV data streams along with static terrain data to construct an interactive scene that allowed the user to analyze and explore the data, apply tactical markup, and monitor for activity over time. We also developed in parallel a visual odometry capability that can accurately correct telemetry data for correct rendering. Finally, we developed a concept of operation for VISTA that leverages our prior work in application of intelligent aids to enhance situational awareness. Phase II will extend VISTA into a complete functioning system ready for transition, and our Phase I success gives us confidence in our ability to meet the goals of the Phase II program.
