Description
Replacing hydrazine in missile defense applications has numerous benefits: lower cost in handling, loading, fielding, integration, and better performance. The safety benefits are substantial; green monopropellant, AF-M315E, has zero vapor pressure which eliminates significant hazards. Technology maturation is needed for higher thrust (90-100N) level thrusters using AF-M315E monopropellant in an instrumented ground test.Plasma Processes has developed innovative AF-M315E thrusters featuring an SBIR developed catalyst and a unique nozzle fabrication process utilizing high temperature refractory alloys designed to withstand the high temperatures of combusting AF-M315E. This effort will focus on ground testing of medium thrust nozzles on an instrumented in-situ configured test stand for scalability and endurance.Approved for Public Release | 16-MDA-8863 (22 September 16)
