Description
SDC proposes the Damage Assessment Algorithm Diagnostic (DAAD) System which can be inserted into a Navy asset during its design phase to assess its in-situ structural integrity. DAAD communicates both the severity and location of damage to technicians through a single point interface. DAAD compares the measured, ply-by-ply, strain state of a structure, obtained through embedded fiber optic strain sensors, to its predicted strain state, obtained through the input of onboard environmental sensors in its damage identification algorithms. Damage visualization algorithms and processes will be employed to transform fiber optic locations to a 3-D coordinate system representative of the structure. This ensures intuitive interpretation of data by personnel of minimal training. SDC proposes a test plan to investigate the structural effects fiber optics have on a structure and will then integrate the DAAD system into a representative submarine component during the Phase I option. DAAD insertion is expected to yield an ROI of 17 upon installment to its first Navy Asset.
