Description

The demand for high-quality protein for human consumption is dramatically increasing due to increasing global population and the preference for high-protein diets. Aquaculture provides one of the most efficient sources of dietary protein. The high feed conversion ratio is significantly higher than for livestock. In order to sustain the rapid growth in aquaculture industry, having access to fishmeal is important. The global fishmeal production steadily decreased in the past two decades, compelling the development of alternatives. In this project, we will produce fishmeal alternative from renewable carbon dioxide from an ethanol plant. If successful, our project will not only provide a sustainable alternative to fishmeal, it will also increase the profitability of ethanol plants and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. The clear advantages of our technology are highlighted in addressing food security, energy security and environmental concerns in a cost-competitive manner.
