Description
SI2 Technologies (SI2) will design a DRFM-based, compact active-RF countermeasure for helicopter protection. The design will cover 2 through 18 GHz signals, and will be specifically adapted to be form and fit compatible with the ALE-47 launcher already on the helicopters. This countermeasure will provide a minimum of 30 seconds of operation, giving the helicopter time to maneuver or otherwise address the threat. This approach is based on SI2s proven expertise in wideband antenna design, design of electronics for compact volumes, and design of power supplies for munitions and related constrained areas. In Phase I, SI2 will simulate and optimize the antenna, electronics, power supply, and aerobraking concepts for performance, size, and cost. We will fabricate and test proof-of-concept hardware demonstrators to demonstrate TRL4 at the conclusion of the Phase I program. We will also generate design packages suitable to proceed with prototype manufacturing in Phase II. In Phase II, we will build and test an expendable prototype to demonstrate TRL6 at the conclusion of the program. We will also perform additional analyses on the aerodynamics of the expendable and on options for long-shelf-life power supply solutions to assist in preparing the countermeasure to transition to a Program of Record.
