Description

We propose to develop a methodology and supporting tools for assessing and estimating multidimensional fidelity requirements for target and background scenes used in M&S to obtain smart munitions system performance. The overall effort in Phase II will focus on the development of a prototype toolkit that involves integrating fidelity metrics, development of test imagery, performance assessment, correlation of simulation performance with metrics, and the development of a scene generator adequacy score for sensor/algorithm cases. In addition, we will develop methods for specifying scene generation fidelity requirements based on classes of sensors/algorithms, applications, and simulation type (all digital, signal injection, HWIL). We strongly believe that success in solving this critical problem will rely on a heuristic approach with significant input from our subject matter experts. Our goal for the proposed effort is to develop and demonstrate a prototype Fidelity Metrics Toolkit that can lead to a more generalized and comprehensive fidelity formulation in Phase III. The generalized fidelity formulation will allow the simulation community to determine the adequacy and suitability of scene generator imagery for their specific simulation implementation and application, including anything from simple to complex seekers and sensors in various simulation environments.
