Description
In Phase I we will model, analyze, and optimize our existing non-ionizng, low power imaging technology for armor.We will demonstrate a breadboard microwave/millimeter wave NDI system that behaves like a video camerabut which creates 3D images of the interior of multi-layer dielectric materials.We will use flat and curved vehicle and body armor samples up to 2 thickness and show ability to inspect areas of 2 square feet in less than 5 minutes.We will detect debonds, inclusions, and cracks in composites, Kevlar, rubber, and ceramicsand inspect interfaces between layers.Phase I will include a Phase II prototype design and a draft Commercialization Plan.The overall objective of this endeavor is to determine specific microwave imaging system design specifications for the development of a ruggedized, real-time, high-resolution, 3D and man-portable microwave camera, for rapid, on-site inspection of body and vehicle armors for unintended and ballistic damages.We will also demonstrate ability to build the proposed imaging system to be rugged, reliable and easy to use for use in highly-demanding and stressful environments.The proposed system is expected to provide scalability for individual body armor up to large vehicle are in a battery operated system.
