Description
ABSTRACT: Civilian and military systems worldwide have become dependent on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers such as the Global Positioning System (GPS). Hence, the detection, identification, and geolocalization of jammers that disrupt GNSS signals have become increasingly important for electronic protection (EP) and electronic support (ES) measures. While multipath has traditionally been an enemy of GNSS signals, it also has the potential to assist in geolocalization and enabling single-receiver systems in locating jammers without external assistance, thereby lowering the required resources to localize radio-frequency (RF) emitters.During this proposed effort, Toyon will leverage our direction-finding and multipath-mitigating hardware to harness multipath for the purpose of geolocating RF emitter sources, particularly in the L band. During the Phase I effort, Toyon will develop the required algorithms and models, conduct experiments with actual hardware, and verify simulated experiments with measured data. A prototype system design will be developed during the Phase I effort, and fabricated and demonstrated during the Phase II program.; BENEFIT: The ability of a single receiver to geolocate GNSS jammers will significantly reduce the resources necessary to locate RF jammers. A system that is capable of multipath-exploitation to improve localization performance, together with the ability to provide direction-finding (DF) and position, velocity, attitude, and time (PVAT) can be used by both civilian and military operators. The system can be used for both navigation and for jammer hunting and has applications under the FAA and FCC, as well as for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) where there is a growing concern of the disruption of our nations power grid due intentional interference.
