Description
While Army munitions are typically used as an end to themselves, they can also be used as a means to deliver electronic payloads or Non-Kinetic Effects (NKE). The payloads functionality can include passively gathering intelligence, such as audio or video sensors, or for Electronic Warfare (EW) via RF effects. Many adversarial industrial, civil, and communication infrastructures are vulnerable to electronic attack and cyber intrusion, but require close proximity in order to gain access. Munition delivery of EW NKEs allows them to be deployed very close to the target. This allows the EW to take place at lower RF power levels than it would for long range attacks. This limits the sphere of influence of the device and reduces any unattended consequences to the localized area. Toyon will utilize its experience developing munition electronics and custom RF hardware and antennas to create a prototype EW NKE submunition targeting a 155 mm projectile.
