Description

Research Proposed: Research is proposed to develop an innovative system for capture, storage and analysis of vehicular data from which driver proficiency metrics can be extracted, for the purpose of identifying aptitude and deficient performance. This novel approach will allow for seamless integration into numerous tactical vehicles, and provide an intuitive, actionable analysis user interface for rapid assessment by the Motor Transport Officer or Commander.<br>Problem Statement: While airborne platforms can ensure pilot experience through mission-specific simulation hours, Marine Corps tactical vehicle drivers have often not been trained and certified by the Motor Transport School. As a result, drivers can be deployed with insufficient training, leading to a higher risk of accidents.<br>Plan/Process Outline: Using Commercial off the Shelf components, a vehicle-agnostic system will be designed for real-time capture and storage of vehicular data, along with integral location, acceleration, velocity and temporal data. This system will support analysis and correlation of captured data, as well as other mission-specific and situational data, in a graphical, actionable format, with support for export to alternate systems for data sharing across the Department of Defense. A standards-based, open XML format will be used for data storage, leading to increased sharing across agencies.
