Description

Vadum will develop a cognitive radar threat characterization (CRTC) system that employs a learning framework and algorithms to detect and counter agile, adaptive threat radars. Capabilities developed will provide improvements to threat detection, identification, and intent estimation to augment the SLQ-32 SEWIP Block 2 Electronic Support (ES) capabilities. CRTC will focus on the challenges of short engagement timelines (10s of seconds), emitter spectral agility, and threat platform agility through threat feature expansion, advanced characterization, and real-time behavior learning. CRTC targets an emitter threat space including surveillance, fire-control, navigation, and (Anti-Ship Cruise Missile) ASCM seekers. Of these, ASCM threats represent the greatest challenge to the SLQ-32, since any delay in detection and identification functions can have immediately lethal consequences. The Phase I effort will emphasize applying cognitive and deep characterization techniques to improve threat warning and Electronic Countermeasure (ECM) decisions for the counter-ASCM mission.
