Description
Vadum will develop an optical sensor to capture true relative motion between an unmanned vehicle and the aircraft carrier deck or ground airstrip surface, regardless of wheel slip or skid. The optical sensor will output data at a high data rate and with very high accuracy. No additional sensors (GPS, magnetic compass, gyroscopes, accelerometers) are needed, and no equipment will be installed on the carrier. The rugged and compact system can be installed completely within the landing gear compartment, with negligible impact on aircraft aerodynamics or observability. The optical sensor is immune to RF interference. The sensor technology can also be used with military and public-safety unmanned ground vehicles, particularly in GPS-denied environments.
