Description
A linear 256-element silicon-photodetector focal plane array (FPA) will be tested and characterized, before being integrated with camera electronics and tested. The FPA will be shown to have at least 6 bits of dynamic range beyond the existing lidar sensors used in airborne lidar systems for underwater mine detection. The ability to accommodate glint, while maintaining sensitivity will also be demonstrated. The results of these tests will be used to develop the design of a fine-pixel-pitch 1,024 element linear avalanche photodiode (APD) receiver, which will be fabricated and demonstrated in Phase II, and shown to provide enhanced probability of target detection, with lower false alarms, compared to existing lidar receivers.
