Description
White River Technologies, Inc. (WRT) presents this proposal, "Acoustically/Vibrationally Enhanced High Frequency Electromagnetic Detector for Buried Landmines".The primary goal of the proposed effort is to develop a prototype vibrationally-enhanced detection system capable of landmine and IED detection and discrimination with performance greater than conventional GPR sensors. The main sensing component of the system is a multi-mode radar capable of GPR imaging, Doppler measurement acquisition from vibrating subsurface objects, and intermodulation distortion (IMD) data acquisition.Prototype software defined radar features include environmentally-adaptable noise cancellation, waveform selection, and data acquisition to enable the operation of a single radar receiver in the various modes while achieving high performance across varying environments. To vibrate subsurface targets, acoustic / seismic sources will be synchronized with the radar data acquisition system.Signal processing, detection, and classification algorithms will be developed for processing the data products from GPR imagery, single-tone Doppler measurements, and IMD measurements.Multi-physical modeling will be utilized to investigate the complex interaction between RF waves propagating through vibrating soil and reflected from vibrating subsurface targets. An innovative seismic and AC/DC magnetic field sensing approach will also be evaluated as part of the proposed effort.
