Description
XL Scientific and teammate Aret Associates propose to develop a software application to perform fast and accurate modeling of the radar cross section (RCS) of small sea targets within a dynamic ocean. The important aspects include polarization, beam-width and frequency of the radar, the height and elevation angle of the radar platform, and the ocean state including the orientation of the boat within the ocean. The proposed software will combine Arets hydrodynamic code, for modeling the ocean surface and the orientation of targets within the ocean, with XL Scientifics exact-physics/full-wave integral equation (IE) electromagnetic solvers, for modeling the radar cross section of targets, and XL Scientifics asymptotic electromagnetic ray-tracing code, for modeling the interaction of the radar signal and the target with the ocean surface. In addition, Arets Radar Simulation Code (RSC) will be used to model Bragg scattering to incorporate ocean backscatter. XL Scientific and Aret will combine these separate codes into a seamless single software application. This software application will allow analysts to rapidly and accurately model the RCS of a target under a variety of ocean conditions which can ultimately be used for radar algorithm development and classification of targets.
