Description
This Phase II project will develop defects made by laser micromachining and modified for visibility under SIR so as to closely mimic natural cracks when viewed by this technique. The laser method allows accurate placement of defects on arbitrary geometries, to well controlled depth with near zero part scrap.This capability will reduce the cost of NDE reliability assessment as well as provide affordable test standards to train NDE inspectors and develop new NDE methodologies and protocols.
