Description
We propose to investigate TWTs based on novel slow-wave structures that can generate 100 W of continuous wave power in the V and W bands. We will evaluate a class of structures that are robust and easy to build using a combination of conventional machining and electrode discharge machining. The proposed techniques are based on our successful fabrication of high power capable overmoded coupled cavity circuits for V-band TWTs. The fabrication techniques will be chosen to allow scaling of the proposed technology to higher frequencies such as the G-band. The various subsystems of the TWT will be modeled and optimized using the latest suite of electromagnetic, particle-in-cell and beam-wave interaction codes.
