Description

The DOD is investing in mobile computing, information and warrior health systems to support network-centric military capabilities. Computerized health records, telemedicine, wearable monitoring, mHealth have the potential to reduce costs, promote health, ensure soldier fitness. The goal of this project is to design, develop, demonstrate, deploy a Warfighter Health Avatar (WHA), a simulation framework and physiology-based modeling tools of a warfighter body enabling definite assessment of his/her health status, physical and physiological performance, and injury trajectory. The WHA will be developed as friendly, personalized App on mobile platforms interfacing with wearable monitoring sensor systems used by warfighters, veterans, military medics, and engineers and scientists involved in soldier protection and casualty care. It will enable user-friendly setup of the warfighter body anthropometric parameters and basic physiological vitals; it will enable simulations of his physiological responses to various stressors, physical activities and injuries. In Phase II a functional WHA Mobile App product will be delivered to military medicine stakeholders in Open Source with secure links to wearable monitoring systems and commination with command and control centers and to electronic health records. WHA App will have huge commercial application in physical fitness and sports medicine and in the emerging personalized and precision medicine.
