Description
Cornerstone Research Group, Inc. (CRG) has developed a solid Ceramic Polymer Composite Electrolyte (CPCE) for metal-air power sources. The existing electrolyte solutions favor ionic conductivity at the sacrifice of mechanical performance resulting in metal-air batteries that are fragile and unpractical for portable applications. In Phase I, CRG developed a solid CPCE by combining superionic conducting ceramic, solid polymer electrolyte binder, and mechanical reinforcements to meet the Armys needs for practical metal-air power sources. CRG demonstrated a CPCE in Phase I that provided the hybrid characteristics of flexibility and ionic conductivity to make metal-air batteries practical for a wide range of use. In Phase II, CPCEs will be integrated into a metal-air battery prototype and tested for electrochemical performance in practical use conditions.
